Welcome to the last few weeks of 2020! We have officially made it to October, which means that Spooky Season is unapologetically in full effect. We realize that trick-or-treating may not be the safest way to celebrate Halloween this year, so we’re here with some modern solutions.

In lieu of a Halloween spent traveling house to house, ringing doorbells, and saying hello to neighbors, we have a few alternatives. There is no reason to cut out any spookiness or fun of this holiday; and we’re certainly not cutting out any candy. So gather round, and please continue to plan out your costume while we walk through our safe at home options for the 31st.

First up is Halloween Karaoke. This may take a little creativity to get started, but that won’t stop us from rocking out! Find a screen that everyone can see, look up your favorite Halloween song lyric videos, and belt it! Feel free to delve further than “Monster Mash” and “I Put a Spell on You”. Once you get the songs rolling, you won’t want to stop.

A backyard scavenger hunt may be just what Doctor Frankenstein ordered for children that are disappointed about not trick-or-treating this year. Set up your own spooky scavenger hunt, leading your kids all over the house and back yard with clues like:

In the darkest corner of the yard

under a garish yellow card

you will find a little key.

Where does it go? You will see!

Watching them run around and figure out clues will be entertaining for you, and they’ll get to feel like they still earned their candy this year. If your home is equipped with indoor and outdoor HD cameras, you’ll be able to save this footage. How fun is it that you’ll get to look back on your most creative Halloween activity for years to come?

If you’re connecting with friends via video chat, try taking it a step further by finding a Halloween-themed trivia site! Take turns quizzing each other on classic scary movie trivia, learning more about the true origins of Halloween, and more.

This Halloween isn’t the first holiday to be celebrated differently in 2020, and it won’t be the last. As always, we encourage you to make the most of it while staying safe at home.
