Was your favorite breakfast as a kid sugar topped with more sugar?! Ours was. As good as the original toaster pastry is, it could be a tad healthier and less processed. We have a yummy copycat recipe for you that is so simple and will satisfy that nostalgic craving.

Our friend  @themarysarge, created this super easy 4-ingredient recipe for us. Store-bought pie crust, a jam of your choice (were you thinking strawberry jam too?), cornstarch and an egg are all you need to make your very own toaster pastries. While we did make ours with jam, you always have the option to fill yours with a chocolate spread, peanut butter or even a cinnamon-sugar and butter blend.

If you’re aiming for a healthier option, we recommend topping off your toaster pastries with a simple powdered sugar glaze and sprinkles to make them extra delicious and pretty. While typically vanilla extract is used, you can use any flavor extract to customize to your taste buds. We think almond, lemon or maple extract would make great alternatives for vanilla here, depending on the flavor of your filling.

No matter how you make ‘em, these handheld, DIY toaster pastry recipe are sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike. Are these going to be your breakfast tomorrow morning? Show off what you make in our Safe at Home Facebook Group!
