A fall classic: apple pie. When you’ve eaten it so many times before, it may be difficult to get excited about another one. Devin has an excellent solution to this problem. She’s concocted a simple apple pie recipe that includes one elevated component: a leaf cutout crust.

This extra step may take more preparation time, but the finished product looks substantially more elegant than your usual plain pie crust.

Contrary to what you might feel in looking at Devin’s pie, you don’t necessarily have to be an artist to make these leaves look so incredible. Any craft or kitchen supply store will carry cookie cutters similar to these. The trick to making them look more detailed is using a toothpick or long skewer to draw lines into the dough before you bake it. Draw as much detail as your patience allows, then pop your pie in the oven to bake.

As in all apple pies, it is important to slice your apples very thinly. This ensures each bite has the right proportions of apple, spices, and melty goodness. When you bake this pie, turn on some music, make a pot of tea, and enjoy the process. For some unexplainable reason, this makes it taste better.
