What are the typical components of a good home security system?
A comprehensive home security system usually includes:
ADT Base: The heart of your security system, the Base communicates with all connected devices and the monitoring teams, giving you seamless control and peace of mind
Door and Window Sensors: These sensors are the smart, front-line detection for some of your home’s most vulnerable entry points, alerting you when doors or windows are opened unexpectedly
Motion Detectors: To monitor open areas like rooms and hallways, these sensors detect movement within their range, adding an extra layer of protection to your home's living spaces
Glass Break Sensors: Auditory sensors that recognize the sound or vibration of breaking glass, such as a window.

What happens if my Wi-Fi goes down or if there is a power outage?
Your ADT security system comes with cellular alarm event backup. In the event your Wi-Fi is disconnected, alarm events can still be sent out from the ADT Base over Cellular Data and/or Cellular SMS connection. If your Base is reporting cellular signal issues, there are a few things you can try to improve your signal strength. To diagnose and resolve network or Wi-Fi related issues, learn more here. The ADT Base and the security system’s sensors also include features that help ensure operation for several hours during a power outage, such as 24-hour battery backup. Google Nest cameras and doorbells will automatically store up to one hour of recorded events in its local memory. You will also receive notifications upon loss and restoration. When things are up and running again, you’ll be able to see exactly what happened.
Do ADT security packages require an active monitoring subscription?
To get the most advanced coverage from your new home security system, ADT provides 24/7 monitoring services by a team of professionals who will notify emergency services for you. For DIY systems, ADT's monitoring services start at $24.99/mo for Secure Monitoring with no long-term contracts, cancel any time. DIY packages with Google Nest products use Complete Monitoring, starting at $39.99/mo and include Google Nest Aware with 30-day video history and intrusion monitoring with video verification. Or upgrade to Google Nest Aware Plus, and get up to 10 days of continuous video recording, plus 60-day event-based video history and storage for your Nest cameras with the 24/7 Video Recording package for only $7.00/mo.
Can I integrate my ADT home security system with other smart home devices?
Yes! ADT security systems integrate with smart home products like the Yale Smart Lock and Google Nest products, including Google Nest Thermostat, Google Nest Cam (indoor, wired), and Google Nest Hub (2nd gen). ADT's smart home security systems also feature remote monitoring, and arming and disarming of your security system in the ADT+ app.
Can I share access to the system with family members or friends?
Yes! With a Google Nest Doorbell and a Yale Assure Lock® 2 or a Yale Assure Lock® 2 Touch, you can access ADT's Trusted Neighbor™§ where you can easily grant access to your home for family, friends, neighbors, or helpers. Plus, automate event-based or scheduled access and notify trusted people of events with the ADT+® app. Auto unlock uses location-based services from the trusted person’s phone in tandem with familiar face detection via the Google Nest Doorbell to verify their identity and unlock and disarm your home. You can also use Auto unlock yourself as a hands-free way to get into your home.
§ Trusted Neighbor features require ADT Complete (includes Nest Aware) pro monitoring plan, Google familiar face detection, ADT Base, and compatible smart lock and camera devices. Familiar face detection is not to be used as definitive identification, and is not available on Nest cameras used in Illinois. Customer is responsible to inform their trusted individuals of any dangerous conditions existing at the premises.
What is Trusted Neighbor?
Trusted Neighbor§ is a new ADT service that lets you grant secure, temporary access to your home through the ADT+ app, providing real-time alerts, video clips and a full history view. It helps give you peace of mind and is the latest example of our commitment to empowering you to protect and connect what matters most.
