How do I install it?
The Base allows for quick and easy installation. Start by placing the base in a central location in your home, preferably on a flat surface like a table or shelf for optimal connectivity with all your ADT devices. Plug the base into a power outlet using the included adapter. Once powered on, follow the step-by-step instructions in the ADT+ app to connect it to wi-fi, pair your devices, and set up preferences.
Where should I put the Base?
For optimal performance, place your ADT Base in a central location within your home, such as a main hallway, kitchen, living room, or near your home's primary entry point. Choose a flat, stable surface like a shelf, table, or countertop. Make sure it’s positioned away from large metal objects, thick walls, or electronic interference to ensure strong communication with your ADT sensors and smart devices. Also, keep it near a power outlet so it stays plugged in, while still taking advantage of its built-in battery backup for emergencies.
What automations does it support?
The Base supports a wide range of smart home automations through the ADT+ app, allowing you to create custom routines that enhance convenience, safety, and energy efficiency. For example:
Lock or unlock smart door locks based on your system’s status
Send real time alerts to your phone for specific events like entry, motion, or temperature changes
All automations can be customized to fit your lifestyle and are managed directly through the ADT+ app for control of your smart home environment.
What is the difference between the Base and Keypad?
The Base is the hub of your smart home security system, responsible for connecting, managing, and communicating with all of your ADT devices. It handles system alerts, and automation. It also includes built-in features like LED status bar and voice assistant integration. The Keypad, is a device used to control your system from additional locations in your home. It allows you to arm or disarm the system, check status, and trigger panic alerts, but it does not serve as a control hub or connect directly to monitoring centers. The keypad communicates with the ADT Base to relay commands, offering added convenience and flexibility.
What data and videos does it store?
The Base does not store video footage or large amounts of data locally. It acts as a communication hub, securely transmitting system activity, and alerts to the cloud. The Base may store temporary system data such as device settings, status updates, and recent activity logs to keep your system running smoothly, but long-term storage and video playback are managed through the cloud to help ensure security, reliability, and remote access.
Is it resistant to tampering?
Yes, the Base bottom cover includes tamper-resistant features to help protect your security system. If someone tampers with the bottom cover, it can trigger a tamper alert that notifies you through the ADT+ app.
What happens if my Wi-Fi or power goes down?
ADT Blu systems come with 24-hour battery backup in case of a power outage. With the Pro-Protect professional monitoring plan, protection can be maintained if Wi‑Fi disconnects by using cellular backup, keeping your system active during internet outages. All connected devices like sensors, keypads, and locks will continue to communicate with the base, and critical alerts will still be sent to your phone through the ADT+ app using the cellular network.
How does the Base contact emergency services?
If you select the Pro-Protect monthly monitoring plan with ADT 24/7 professional monitoring, the ADT Base can contact emergency services through a secure cellular connection linked to ADT’s monitoring center. When system is armed and a sensor is triggered, such as a door opening unexpectedly, motion detected, or an alarm sounding, the base sends a signal to the ADT monitoring team. They will attempt to contact you through your mobile device to confirm the emergency. If there is no response or the situation is verified as a threat, ADT will immediately dispatch the appropriate emergency services. You can also initiate contact with emergency services via the Base’s emergency response buttons, to contact police, medical, or fire services, with a professional monitoring plan.
