- Premise Liability - Financial loss resulting from an employee or customer's lawsuit which is brought against an individual, business, landlord or organization responsible for the maintenance and safety of a property or structure. According to the Jury Verdict Research's review of premises lawsuits around the country. The median verdict in premises liability cases is $98,160. Premises liability claims against recreational facilities were higher.
- Workplace Violence - The U.S. Department of Labor defines workplace violence as, violence or threat of violence against workers. It can occur at or outside the workplace and can include threats, verbal abuse, physical and sexual assaults, arson, sabotage and homicide (which is one of the leading causes of job-related deaths). There are approximately 500,000 victims of violent crime in the workplace each year resulting in an estimated 1.8 million missed workdays; and an astounding $55 million in lost wages for employers.
- Drugs in the Workplace - The use of illegal drugs, alcohol or misuse of prescription medication that can impair a person's judgment, clarity and functioning. Approximately 75% of the illicit drug users in the United States are employed either full or part time. - Harassment or Workplace Bullying - The repeated mistreatment of individuals or groups using persistent aggressive or unreasonable behavior. It includes verbal, nonverbal, psychological and physical abuse, as well as intimidation and humiliation. According to one study, 37% of American workers-roughly 54 million people-have been bullied at work. Workplace bullying costs American business $180M in lost time and productivity each year.
